Before + After waxing |

what to do before + AFter your wax

Before | prepare for your wax appointment..

whether you're waxing a smaller area (i.e. brows or lip) or larger, more intimate areas (i.e. brazilian, underarms, legs, etc.) these are things you can do before coming into the spa to minimize discomfort & to help you achieve the best results.

  • LET IT GROW - KEEP HAIR LONG ENOUGH FOR THE WAX TO GRIP IT. IF YOU THINK YOUR HAIR IS TOO LONG, PLEASE DO NOT TRIM YOUR HAIR BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT. TWO TO THREE WEEKS OF GROWTH (three weeks is ideal), the hair has to be a minimum 3/4 INCH LONG, however, a little longer than that is ideal. HAIR NEEDS TO BE LONGER THAN “STUBBLE” OR THE WAX WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ENCAPSULATE THE HAIR OR REMOVE THE HAIR FULLY FROM THE PORE without any breakage; WHICH CAN RESULT IN A MORE PAINFUL, UNCOMFORTABLE, AND UNEVEN WAX. IF HAIR IS TOO SHORT TO BE WAXED, YOU MAY BE ASKED TO RESCHEDULE YOUR APPOINTMENT AND MAY HAVE TO PAY A FEE.

*PLEASE KNOW, THAT IN ORDER TO RECEIVE A BRAZILIAN OR BIKINI WAX, YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OLD. I WILL NOT PERFORM THIS SERVICE EVEN WITH PARENTAL CONSENT IF YOU ARE UNDER 18.. FOR OTHER WAX SERVICES, IF YOU ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 18, YOU NEED A PARENT PRESENT TO SIGN A PARENTAL CONSENT/RELEASE FORM. MINT SKIN RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE TO ANYONE, FOR ANY REASON, WITHOUT EXPLANATION.

  • Brazilian wax vs Bikini wax: a brazilian wax is removing everything, including between the cheeks. However, a brazilian is completely custom to what you are comfortable doing. You can choose to leave some hair (i.e. a landing strip) or you can wax everything and leave between the cheeks as is - just make sure to let me know when we start the service! A bikini wax is just the hair that would show from wearing a bathing suit bottom essentially. I wax from where your underwear lay and a couple inches from there on the upper inside of the thigh. I recommend for clients first time being waxed; if you are really nervous, a bikini wax is a great start to dipping your toes into removing the hair from down under and to get an idea of what brazilian waxing may feel like.

  • I always get asked (especially for brazilian, bikini, underarms, etc.) “Is it going to hurt?” I never lie. I’ve laid where you are laying many times before and it isnt a fun day at the amusement park. but it also doesnt have to suck. I will never surprise pull on you. I will never tell you to suck it up. I help you breathe through the tough parts, i have you help pull your skin taut with me to release tension in the body, and i will always give you a second to breathe when you need it. I book an appropriate amount of time; i am more concerned about quality and you than i am about the number of people i can fit in, in one day.

  • LIGHT EXFOLIATION - GENTLY EXFOLIATE YOUR SKIN THE NIGHT BEFORE OR THE DAY OF YOUR WAX APPOINTMENT. EXFOLIATION REMOVES DEAD SKIN AND DEBRIS while softening the top layer that the hair will be coming back through, MAKING IT EASIER FOR THE WAX TO STICK TO YOUR HAIR, RATHER THAN YOUR SKIN. THIS HELPS TO MAKE YOUR WAXING EXPERIENCE MORE COMFORTABLE (a little less painful) AND GIVE YOU BETTER RESULTS. DON’T EXFOLIATE TOO HARD THOUGH, YOU DON’T WANT TO MAKE THE SKIN TOO SENSITIVE. AVOID USING SCRUBS LIKE THE INFAMOUS ST. IVES APRICOT SCRUB! using a clean loofah is also a good tool for exfoliating.

  • MOISTURIZE! HEALTHY, WELL MOISTURIZED SKIN HELPS THE WAX TO REMOVE HAIR EASIER. KEEPING THE SKIN HYDRATED MAKES IT EASIER FOR THE FOLLICLE TO BE REMOVED WITH LESS RESISTANCE…SO MOISTURIZE OFTEN UNTIL THE DAY OF (AND EVERY DAY AFTER YOUR WAX). SKIN THAT IS NOT MOISTURIZED PROPERLY CAN ALSO CAUSE THE SKIN TO LIFT. DRY SKIN CAN ABSORB THE WAX, RESULTING IN pulling the SKIN WHEN REMOVING THE WAX.

  • TAKE A CHILL PILL - OKAY, MAYBE NOT AN ACTUAL CHILL PILL, BUT IF YOU HAVE A LOW PAIN TOLERANCE, TAKING A COUPLE ASPIRIN AN HOUR BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT can HELP MINIMIZE DISCOMFORT. ALTHOUGH THE WAX I USE IS A MIX OF ALL NATURAL VEGETABLE OILS, 99% NATURAL, & DOESN'T HAVE THE TYPICAL 'STICKINESS' LIKE MOST WAXES, YOU'RE STILL REMOVING HAIR FOLLICLES FROM IT'S PORE.

  • LOOSE CLOTHING - IF YOU'RE WAXING YOUR UNDERARMS, ARMS, LEGS, BIKINI/BRAZILIAN, YOU DON'T WANT TO WEAR SUPER TIGHT CLOTHES TO YOUR APPOINTMENT OR AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT. WEAR LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING FOR ULTIMATE COMFORT AND TO AVOID IRRITATION.

  • TAKE A RETIN-A BREAK - CERTAIN PRODUCTS CAN over SENSITIZE THE SKIN when WAXING. RETIN-A CREAMS, GLYCOLICS, AHA'S, TOPICAL ACNE CREAMS; CAN LEAVE THE SKIN SUSCEPTIBLE TO INJURY DURING WAXING. EVEN IF YOU AREN'T APPLYING THESE PRODUCTS DIRECTLY TO THE AREA YOU WILL BE WAXING, IT CAN STILL AFFECT YOUR SKIn, as PRODUCT DOES ENTER THE BLOOD STREAM. TAKE A BREAK THE WEEK OF IF YOU ARE WAXING YOUR BROWS, LIP, CHIN, OR SIDEBURNS TO AVOID LIFTING OR TRAUMA TO THE SKIN. ALSO, IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY TAKING ANTIBIOTICS, PLEASE WAIT A WEEK AFTER FINISHING YOUR PRESCRIPTION, BEFORE BOOKING YOUR WAX.

  • IF YOU’RE SUNBURNED OR HAVE HAD LOTS OF SUN EXPOSURE BEFORE YOUR WAX…PLEASE LET ME KNOW BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT; WE MAY HAVE TO RESCHEDULE YOUR APPOINTMENT. SKIN THAT HAS HAD LOTS OF SUN EXPOSURE OR SUNBURN WILL MAKE YOUR SKIN SENSITIVE AND CAN CAUSE LIFTING OR BURNS. YOU WILL NEED TO RESCHEDULE YOUR APPOINTMENT. WAXING COMPROMISED SKIN CAN RESULT IN IRRITATION, LIFTING, OR UNCOMFORTABLE BUMPS. ALSO KEEP IN MIND, IF YOU ARE GOING TO INDOOR TANNING BOOTHS, YOU DO NOT WANT TO GO TANNING 24 HOURS BEFORE OR AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT. YOU ESPECIALLY WANT TO AVOID GOING TANNING right AFTER YOUR WAX. SKIN THAT HAS JUST BEEN WAXED IS EXFOLIATED AND SUPER SENSITIVE; YOU WILL BURN and it will be uncomfortable.

  • IF YOU ARE PREGNANT, breast feeding, OR IF YOU HAVE YOUR PERIOD..yes! you can still get waxed. however, OUR SKIN TENDS TO BE MUCH MORE SENSITIVE. if it is your first time, TRY SCHEDULING YOUR WAX WHEN YOU DON’T HAVE YOUR PERIOD especially IF YOU TEND TO HAVE A LOW PAIN TOLERANCE. YOU CAN WAX WHEN YOU ARE PREGNANT and/or breast feeding; JUST KNOW YOU WILL BE MORE SENSITIVE BECAUSE OF THE CHANGE IN BLOOD FLOW AND HORMONES.

  1. ***DONT HESITATE TO ASK QUESTIONS DURING YOUR VISIT. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A STUPID QUESTION! KEEPING YOUR SKIN HEALTHY IS MY PRIORITY AND I WANT YOU TO HAVE THE BEST EXPERIENCE POSSIBLE.

After | How to take care of your skin

whether it is your first time or 100th time getting waxed, It is important to know the best way to care for the areas that have been waxed. whether it is your brows, bikini, brazilian, or any other body part.. after care is essential. If you’ve been waxed before and had a negative reaction or a bad experience, it is possible you just didnt know exactly what to do and what not to do after. aftercare post waxing is super important and can be the deciding factor on whether or not you return for your next wax. my goal is to give you the best experience and to take care of your skin!

Clothing - wear loose clothing for body waxing; legs, arms, underarms, bikini and brazilian’s. motion equals friction, which can lead to ingrowns & irritation. NO skinny jeans, leggings, or tight clothing for at least 24-48 hours post wax. If you are getting a brazilian wax, i recommend bringing a clean pair of underwear to put on after your wax. waxing = EXFOLIATEd skin = leaving your body susceptible to bacteria. cotton is always best! it is breathable and gentle on FRESHLY waxed skin.

BE Gentle - the first 12 to 24 hours! and listen to your body..if you feel tender or sore still after a wax (for some people, its completely normal), avoid activities that will make you sweat or really hot. if you are taking a shower within 12 hours after being waxed, avoid hot hot water (hot tubs/sauna’s/hot showers and baths), use gentle/sensitive skin body wash; avoid heavily scented scrubs/loofahs, or soaps (yes, i am talking about your beloved bath and body works products).

skip the gym, that bike ride, swimming, and the sauna or hot tub for 12-24 hours following body waxing. sweat = bacteria, and friction and over stimulating freshly waxed skin can cause hives, breakouts, ingrowns, irritation, and overall being uncomfortable. So be smart about your extra CURRICULAR activities…even sex; yes i went there, someone had to say it.

it is recommended to skip all these activities for 12-24 hours after your wax..working out, hot showers (and baths), sauna’s, swimming, going for a run, riding a bike.. plan around your wax appointment (for bikini waxes, brazilians, legs, arms, face waxing, underarms). AVoid activities that will make you hot and sweaty for at least 12 to 24 hours. You do not want to irritate newly exfoliated skin as it is sensitive right after waxing.

Exfoliate - 24-48 hours after treatment to prevent the build up of dead skin cells. dead skin cells cause cause ingrown hairs. exfoliate every time you shower to help keep the skin soft, allowing hair to grow back through the skin easily. every time you wax, you’re removing the hair follicle. over time the follicle gets weaker and weaker, making it harder for it to grow back through the skin. by exfoliating dead skin (and moisturizing); keeping the skin soft, the weaker hairs can come back through the skin easier.

Healing- the waxed areas will need to heal for 24-48 hours. it is normal to see redness, similar to a light sunburn, tender skin, red speckling (pin point bleeding) where the root of the hair has been removed, and very rarely hives. if hives do occur, take an antihistamine - hair removal by waxing essentially causes trauma to the skin and our body’s natural response to trauma can sometimes show by a histamine reaction. The skin may be slightly more tender to the touch than usual. treat your skin like it has a minor sunburn - think aloe gel, manuka honey, unscented body lotions for sensitive skin, or products retailed at mint skin.

use after care- using recommended products post wax in between appointments will prevent you from ingrowns. exfoliate & moisturize, every day until your next appointment. Keeping the skin soft and moisturized will help hair regrowth come through easier. do not shave over the area to get any short hairs, or strays. the first few waxes it is normal to have a couple hairs grow back quicker. the hair grows in 3 stages and most of the time, there is a hair growing in right behind one of the hairs removed. let it grow for the next 4-6 weeks until your next appointment. eventually all the hairs will be on the same growth schedule/pattern, and you won’t experience this.

if waxing your underarms..Do not apply deodorant or anti-perspirants for 8-12 hours after your wax. APplying deodorant will not feel good and will irritate your underarms.

stay on a schedule..schedule your next wax for 4-6 weeks. keep getting waxed on a regular schedule. I will always offer/encourage you to rebook your next appointment before you leave the salon. the more often + on a consistent schedule you wax, the less hair will grow back. the hair begins to grow back finer, more sparse, and eventually may even stop growing in some areas.

*as Always, please ask me any questions you have about post waxing aftercare!
